Choice Unc (14: 4,5,5) RB 80%. This is one of the coolest varieties there is! The off-center clash shows an impression from the denticles and the OF from the obverse die. What is amazing is how this crazy thing happened. Experts have puzzled over this and collectors use it to challenge their friends to test their knowledge. The truth is [Spoiler alert] that the obverse die was used as a hardness test on the blank die. The blank die is conical-shaped and someone at the mint took an obverse die and smacked it on the softened blank die. The impression only goes up the conical die face to the center an is only imprinted on a slight area of the curved cone. The die was determined to be soft enough to be hubbed and the impression was sunk into the die along with the reverse design. The clash was not effaced in the process, except for a little bit between the wreath and letter E. This coin is an excellent example and is worthy of the best collections.
